NILO is een sociale onderneming die onderzoek doet en strategisch advies geeft op het gebied van globalisering en mondiale regelgeving. NILO richt zich op de rol die mondiale (beleids)normen kunnen spelen voor decentrale overheden, grote steden, ondernemingen en NGO’s bij innovatie en strategiebepaling. Daarmee heeft NILO ook een missie: De mondiale samenleving – met haar problemen, uitdagingen èn kansen – dat zijn wij. Wij kunnen de wereld te verbeteren, wanneer wij ondernemen, beleid en strategie formuleren voor onze organisatie, of individueel keuzes maken.
De toekomst vraagt om intensieve en innovatieve vormen van interactie tussen het mondiale en lokale niveau (de global-local samenwerking). Onze mondiale problemen spelen vaak lokaal een rol, en veel van onze lokale problemen hebben een internationale dimensie. Te werken op basis van deze visie geeft steden, bedrijven en organisaties een strategisch voordeel en bevordert een duurzame en verantwoordelijke samenleving.
NILO is a social enterprise that provides strategic advice and legal services to non-state actors – such as cities or corporations – involving the challenges and (strategic) opportunities of globalization and international law. Ultimately, it aims to contribute to the use of global norms – such as human rights or principle of sustainable development – as guiding force to a more inclusive, responsible and sustainable society, global, national and local.
It advises the public and private sector on translating international norms and global policy developments into viable strategies. NILO has developed a special focus on globalisation and city governments, developments in international law and global institutions offer strategic opportunities to local governments around the world.
